For a full understanding of our work and the spirit of this site, it is important that we explain our background. This site comes from the idea of one association with a single experience and for longevity: Rivage (that means Shore in English).

The movement of the palliative care came from a simple observation: the "medicine" cannot cure everything. On the major impulse of two women the concept of taking total charge of the disease makes its way into the units of care.

Pionneer, Dame Cicely Saunders created in England The St Christopher's Hospice in 1967. It launched a new but simple idea "Not only cure but care". Indeed the pain does not only have a physical component, but psycho affective, social, familial and spiritual also. It is obvious today that one cannot hope to look after and accompany a sick person without taking into account all these componaents.

A little later Doctor Élisabeth Kübler-Ross, doctor and psychoanalyst, worked in the United States on the various emotional reactions of a patient vis-a-vis to his disease and at the approach of his own death.

Rivage thus fits in this movement and brings a French solution to the global suffering and the end of life. Born within the private hospital Claire Demeure in Versailles, our association is a group of research and action to accompany any person touched by the suffering, the disease, the mourning which takes a strong and concrete action with the patients and their families. By the permanent presence of volunteers trained and integrated into medical teams, we endeavour to give the greatest support possible in various units within the establishment of Claire Demeure: palliative care, long duration stays, unit for the disorientated people, chaplaincy and support of mourning. In addition, we also act in outreach in the hospital of Reuilly (Paris), in the Cité des Fleurs (Neuilly) and in the network of homecare "Epsilon".
